Why We Don’t Use Imported Ethanol (And Never Will)
Why I’ll Never Use Imported Ethanol in Our Spirits
Let’s talk about what’s actually in your gin.
Not the garnish. Not the tonic.
The real stuff — the ethanol. The base spirit. The part that makes up most of what’s in your glass.
Here’s what most people don’t realise:
Most distilleries in Australia don’t make it.
They buy bulk ethanol, usually from over east. Water it down, add some flavour, and stick their label on the bottle.
That’s allowed. It even gets called “craft.”
But it’s not how we do things at Beyond.
We make our own spirit — from scratch.
We start with WA-grown grain. We ferment it ourselves. We distil it here, on-site, in Busselton. Every drop that goes into our gin, vodka, whisky — we’ve made it with our own hands.
Why?
Because this isn’t just a product to me — it’s a passion.
And how could it be, if I was just buying someone else’s spirit and calling it mine?
I care about what goes into the bottle.
I want to support our local farmers and know exactly where every ingredient comes from.
Because flavour starts at the foundation.
And because I believe people deserve spirits that are real — not rebranded imports.
This is what I live and breathe every day.
Sure, importing ethanol is cheaper.
But what are you really getting?
No clue where it came from. No clue how it was made.
Probably not something I’d want to drink — let alone sell.
By doing everything ourselves — from grain to glass — we can stand behind every bottle.
We know the water came from the South West.
We know the botanicals were grown right here in WA.
We know the people who grew the grain.
We know the spirit inside out.
That’s what craft should mean.
It’s more work. It’s more expensive. It’s slower.
But for me, it’s the only way that makes sense.
So when you drink a Beyond gin, you’re not just drinking something tasty.
You’re drinking something with integrity.
Made here. Made right.
Drink local. Drink consciously. Drink Beyond.
